The Noun : Gender
Grammatical grouping of nouns and pronouns into classes, masculine, feminine, and neuter, according as they are regarded as male, female, or without sex is called gender. A grammatical term referring to the difference between masculine and feminine words such
as 'he' and she'.
Look at these sentences :
1 A man was walking along the road.
2. The queen sat on her royal throne.
3. Govind liked his teacher.
4. I saw a flock of sheep grazing in the meadow.
In sentence (1) we have the word man which is masculine. All names of male animals or persons are of the Masculine Gender:
boy, king, hero, father, lion, bull.
In sentence (2) we have the word queen which is Feminine. All names of female animals or persons are of the Feminine Gender
girl, woman, heroine, mother, lioness, cow.
The word teacher in sentence (3) is of the Common Gender, because a teacher may be male or female. Names that can be applied to both male and female are of the Common Gender
child, pupil, friend, neighbour, servant. In sentence (4) the noun meadow is of the Neuter Gender. All inanimate things, or things which do not have life like animals and human beings, are said to be cf the Neuter Gender:
meadow, tree, chair, room, stone, iron.

1 Masculine Gender (पुल्लिंग)
वे संज्ञाएं होती हैं जिनका प्रयोग पुरुष
या नर, पशु या पक्षियों के लिए होता है। जैसे- man, boy, bull, horse, tiger, dog, lion.
2 Feminine Gender (स्त्रीलिंग)
वे संज्ञाएं होती हैं जिनका प्रयोग स्त्री या मादा जानवरों के लिए होता है। जैसे- -women, girl, cow, mare, tigress, bitch, lioness.
3 Common Gender (उभयलिंग)
वे संज्ञाएं होती है जिनका प्रयोग
नर और मादा (स्त्री और पुरुष) दोनों के लिए होता है। जैसे-child, pupil, friends, neighbour, sheep, cousin, cattle, rat, relation, servant, elephant, parents.
4 Neuter Gender (नपुंसक लिंग)
संज्ञाऐं होती हैं जिनका प्रयोग निर्जीव वस्तुओं के लिए होता है। Abstract Noun (भाववाचक संज्ञाएं) और collective Noun (समूहवाचक संज्ञाऐं) नपुंसक लिंग की मानी जाती हैं। जैसे-Tree, chair, room, stone, iron, gold, crowd, flock, gang, beauty, truth, height, book.
lamp, pen, table.
